Technique first

We teach clean On2 from the ground up, so what you learn actually holds up out on the social floor.

Everyone is welcome

All genders, all backgrounds, all levels. Come with a friend or come on your own, we sort partners in the room.

Real New York style

On2, also known as Mambo, is smooth, musical and a joy to dance socially. It is the heart of everything we teach.

Our story

More than just
a dance class

Soy Salsa was founded in 2025 by Cao An and Yimini with one simple goal: to spread the love of salsa in London. What began as a small class has grown into a community of hundreds of dancers.

We built the school we wish we had learned at. High-quality teaching, a warm and supportive room, and space for everyone to move at their own pace. No egos and no pressure, just good dancing and good people.

What we teach

We dance On2.
Here is what that means

Salsa comes in a few flavours. We teach New York style On2, sometimes called Mambo. In plain terms, it means you break on the second beat of the music rather than the first.

Dancing on the 2 locks your movement into the groove of the music. It feels smooth, musical and unmistakably New York. It takes a few weeks to click, and after that it is hard to dance any other way.

Salsa music moves in counts of eight. In On2, your break steps, the ones that change direction, land on the 2 and the 6.

Never danced before? Perfect. Most of our beginners start from zero, and we teach from the very first step.

How learning works

Learn at your level, move at your pace

Classes run as monthly courses. You take one level at a time, learn it for a month, then move up or repeat. That is the whole idea.

1

Find your level

New, or crossing over from another style? Take our quick placement, or if you are not sure, just check with us before you book.

2

Learn it for a month

Each course runs for a month, one class a week, with the same group. You get real repetition and real progress, not a blur of one-off drop-ins.

3

Move up or repeat

Nailed it? Move up to the next level. Want it to settle first? Repeat and sharpen. Most dancers spend two to three months at each level, and that is exactly right.

The levels

One path, seven levels

Every level teaches partnerwork, with solo shines added from Beginner 2 up, and you take one level at a time so nothing gets skipped.

Coming from another style?

We dance On2. If you learned On1, switching over is its own piece of learning and it lands differently for everyone, so we place you in person rather than have a quiz guess. Start here and we'll pick a level together.

Just here for flair?

Our Styling courses build shines, body movement and expression you dance on your own. Femme styling, fundamentals and advanced, is led by Yimini; Men's styling is led by Cao An.

Came on your own? So did most of us.

You do not need a partner and you do not need experience. We rotate partners in class and balance the room, so you will be dancing with people within minutes.
